Some Current Favourites

When I draw with promarkers it always looks like it was drawn by someone else… Anyway! I haven’t done a “Favourites” post in a while, and in an attempt to make it a little more interesting I drew them in my sketchbook! It was pretty fun sketching everything out really simply so everything fit on one page of my little sketchbook.

Harry and I visited London last month and found Boxpark in Shoreditch; a block of buildings with small shops, cafes and restaurants. We originally went because Harry has been desperate to try Voodoo Ray’s for years, but also found that the shops there are AMAZING! I had drooled over Papersmiths website on many an occasion, so when I walked past it I did a double take, squeaked and proceeded to float around the shop as if I was dreaming. I came out with some Koh-I-Noor pencils and an orange tote bag with “Rock Paper Scissors” printed on the front. I’ve been using it non stop as my everyday bag, and my sketchbook fits perfectly in the front pocket. Yes!

Now that Harry can drive we’ve been taking silly trips to places like Ikea purely because we weren’t able to before. My mission for the past few months has been to buy a Monstera Deliciosa (clearly so I can live out my Instagram apartment dreams HA), and when I found out that Ikea sell them, we were straight in the car and on our way! We spent an embarrassing amount of money, as you always seem to end up doing in Ikea, but came out with the important stuff – The monstera, and those chocolate layered crisp cookies that I HAVE to buy every time I’m there.

I’ve had an Apple Watch for a little while now, and its managing to get me off my bum and go running a couple of times a week! I’m still finding it weird and a bit clunky looking on my little wrist, but its definitely making me more active.

Finally, my new baby, the Fujifilm X-T2. My previous post went in to more detail about it so I won’t go in to it too much here, but I am seriously in love with it. I had been Saving up for a new camera for over a year now, and it felt super weird finally using that money to buy it, but its so good to finally have a camera that I can say I am 100% happy with and can see myself using for years and years to come!

Thats it for my current favourites! As soon as I notice I’m lovin’ on a handful of things I’ll be sure to do another one. Do you have/ have you tried any of these? What are you loving right now? Let me know in the comments! ♥

P.S: I have an Instagram account that features just my sketchbook pages, processes and finished pieces; check it out here – My other Instagram is going to be a bit more photo-based, with the occasionally photographed finished illustration piece dotted around.

Recent Makeup & Skincare

Okay, so I went a bit crazy on makeup and skincare recently… I received my first “proper” pay check in a little while and had no idea what to do with myself! (but my savings account is looking the healthiest it has in years, so I’m pretty proud of that!) There were things that I ran out of and replaced, and things I’ve wanted to try for a long time, so over the last couple of months I picked up these babies:

Everyone says this, but I’m a sucker for travel sized things. A) They are cute B) They are the perfect “I want to try this but I don’t want to commit to the full size product because I might be allergic/not like it” C) They CUTE.

Luckily, I like both of these items from Urban Decay.
The mascara is the perfect size  – I wish more brands would stock mascaras this small normally! I have never been through an entire mascara before I have to throw it away at the recommended 2-3 month mark. I’m much more likely to make a decent dent in this (or even finish it???) and not feel bad for throwing it away after a couple of months. Also its not clumpy, separates, makes my eyelashes look SUPER long and because its shorter, I can get closer to the mirror(I have to be really close because I can’t see a damn thing without my glasses). New favourite! Definitely going to carry on buying it in this size.
The All Nighter setting spray is a pretty cult Urban Decay product and has been around for years. They’ve recently had a bit of a rebrand with this range and added more options for different skin types, which is fantastic. I was originally looking for a travel size “Chill” hydrating setting spray because I have dry skin, but they don’t do it, so I went with the original. It was 30°, I was melting, my makeup was melting and I had a hen party to go to that evening without going home first, so I was counting on this stuff! I’m impressed. I’ve never used a setting spray before, so I didn’t really know what to expect, but even my blush was still visible at the end of the evening! I didn’t look in the mirror all night in fear of what I might look like – but my makeup was all still in the right places when I got home. Thumbs up!

I think I’ve spoken about the Pixi Glow Tonic and FAB Ultra repair face moisturiser on the blog before, so I won’t go too much in to them, but will say that I’ve lost count of how many of these I have bought over the past few years. They are staples in my skincare routine. I’m pretty dry, and so suffer from flaky skin quite regularly. The Glow Tonic takes away all of the gross flakiness and the moisturiser soothes and calms any redness I may have thanks to the colloidal oatmeal it has in it. I will probably carry on buying these forever and ever.

I’ve tried lots of facial sunscreens over the past few years and all of them make me break out and irritate my skin. I’ll still have a tiny spot or two at the end of the day after wearing this Pixi one, but it doesn’t make my skin itchy or irritated. I’d LOVE to try the Glossier Invisible Shield sunscreen, buuuut, I have to be patient and wait until they come to the UK. The last time I ordered from them I ended up spending more on tax than what I actually bought. Sigh.
And finally, I don’t understand why I haven’t seen anyone else talking about this Palmers face mask?? I really like face masks, but they never seem to actually do anything. I had been on the hunt for a budget enzyme mask for a while now (woah some of them are crazy money!), and I really feel like this one delivers. My face definitely feels smoother, there is no irritation, it feels quite “purifying” without making my face freak out. Plus, my skin seems to prefer exfoliation that isn’t physical, so this ticks that box. I’ve not tried any of their skincare before this, but I might have to now!

Have you tried any of these lately? Or any new skincare products that you think are great? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Stationery Week!

Out of all of the thoooousands of national days that plaster themselves all over social media on a weekly basis – this is one I can get behind! Having had a stationery addiction for most of my life, my home is constantly scattered with different stationery items that I use daily. In recent years I have toned it down a bit… I look for well designed and good quality items, I now ACTUALLY FINISH the notebooks that I buy before purchasing a new one, and wait until things have run out before spending hours on websites like Present & Correct. Okay fine, I do spend time on there even when I’m not buying things… but I have to fuel my addiction somehow, right?!

So here are my current most favourite/most used stationery items, as well as a lil’ Wishlist to finish things off (my birthday is in June, hinthintwinkyface).

Leuchtturm 1917 notebook, used as a bullet journal. I was going to buy their actual bullet journal, but the colour I wanted was sold out at the time, so I went for this instead! It also means that I can customise it a bit more to my needs as the weeks and months go by. It matches my Leuchtturm sketchbook as well which is always a bonus, but to tell the truth I’m not that impressed with the paper. It’s very thin, so you can see what you’ve written on the previous page a little too clearly for my liking. It’s especially bad if you use markers/highlighters. When I’ve finished this I’m going to search for a bullet journal with thicker pages! If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to know.

A purchase from Amsterdam last summer; the Kaweco Classic Sport clutch pencil. Kaweco is one of my favourite pen/pencil brands. They are all just so prettttyyyyy *insert crying emoji*. Harry bought the black and I got the white. It’s short and chubby and I tend to use it in my sketchbook for the occasional expressive line. Harry uses his whenever there is DIY going on in the house, to mark where shelves/pictures will go etc. It’s an all round lovely thing to use! Definitely makes me want to start a Kaweco collection. Perhaps I’ll try one of their gel roller pens next…

A few things from the HAY shop in Bath. I was in Bath quite regularly over the past year and a bit up until recently, doing an interior design project. So of course I couldn’t help but have a wander round HAY on more than one occasion! One of the last times I was there I bought their own brand ruler and pen, a Pentel “Colour Pen Fine Point” in a greenish grey colour, some washi tape (I can never resist washi tape), and a really handy DUX pencil sharpener. I’m super lazy with pencil shavings, so this keeps my workspace nice and tidy!

Muji pens! I used to have a green one but it leaked everywhere and got all over my Apple Pencil (now THAT was a drama) …granted, it was a few years old, as these are. I tend to use these either in my bullet journal or to write in greetings cards with. They are nice and smooth and apparently, never run out!

A pair of scissors that I’ve had for years. These were a gift, and I think they are supposed to be fabric scissors. I did use them for fabric for the first few years of their life, but they were accidentally used for paper a couple of times and thats what they’ve been used for ever since! I’m sure if I sharpened them they would be fine for fabric again, but I like having them out in my pencil pot because they are so preeeetty.

And finally, my stationery Wishlist. Collected from two of my favourite stationery websites:

  1. Red Kaweco classic rollerball pen, Choosing Keeping
  2. Quitterie pencil case, Present and Correct
  3. Pen holder band, Present and Correct
  4. Clamp tray, Present and Correct
  5. Enamel stationery pins, Present and Correct
  6. Stamp wall planner, Present and Correct
  7. Large red koi celluloid pen case, Choosing Keeping

Do you have any favourite stationery or stationery websites/shops? Let me know so I can go and drool at more things!

Favourite Things: October

1. Westworld. Is anyone else watching this?? ITS SO GOOD!

2. Windsor & Newton coloured inks. I used to use these a lot in my teens and have recently re-discovered them because of Inktober. Love the gold! Just wish it separated less and was a bit less gloopy.  If anyone can recommend me a good gold ink, please let me know!

3. This enamel pin. Harry bought it for me from Super Team Deluxe and I think it describes me pretty perfectly at the moment.

4. Nightlights by Lorena Alvarez. I’d been eyeing this up for the last couple of months, went away for a few days for work and came back to it waiting for me on our picture ledge. Thanks Harry! 💕 This month has been pretty present heavy apparently!

Favourite Things: August

1. This month I bought a few new items for our apartment from Rockett St George. If you haven’t heard of this site before, go go go look now! I tend to buy a lot of vintage interiors, or make my own cushions and things because I find it quite hard to scout things out on the high street that aren’t same-y and a bit boring. But Rockett St George tries to stay really individual and dare I say, “quirky”, so it’s a lot easier to hunt things down that I like! Of course there are a few bits on there that you think “okay, well I’ve seen that in LOADS of other places” (those damn cactus vases are everywhere right now!), but most of it is quite unique and caters to my mishmash-taxidermy-gold-and-shiny style. The insect wall hanging can be found here and the cushions here.

2. New favourite concealer! I bought the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer the other day after thinking about it for a couple of months and seeing lots of other bloggers use it and rave about it, and it knocks the socks off of every concealer I’ve ever used (It’s also the most expensive one I’ve ever bought, so I should hope it would!). It just sticks. All day. And doesn’t crease under my eyes as much as my NYX HD concealer did. Obviously ALL concealers crease, but this one doesn’t haaaardly as much. I do wish they would bring it out in “Fair Warm” though. Fair Neutral was a bit too pink on my warm toned but pale skin, so I went for Light Warm, which I know will probably be too dark for me come winter. *shrug*

3. Blue walls. What?! I have never ever liked blue walls. Ever. But all of a sudden, I see this picture and fall in love with it. And then I see the Elle decoration article on it and I feel like I neeeeeed it. Very very strange for me; someone who likes earthy tones. Imagine that with my green velvet cushions, and orange velvet lamp shade, and actual pictures on the walls like we have been meaning to do forever. Yummy. You can find the article (in Swedish)
here.

4. And finally, cornflower blue nail polish. Or more accurately; Barry M Coconut Infusion in Laguna. Another blue! Maybe it was a subconscious choice because I want blue walls?? No one is really feeling this colour on me, but I like it in a weird sickly sweet sort of way. Plus it’s cruelty free and the formula is meant to nourish your nails with coconut water & oil. They even say not to use a base coat, so we’ll see how it goes. I have been wearing this for 2 days now, so excuse the wear on them!

And that concludes my favourite things/things I bought in August! Does anyone else struggle with finding warm toned makeup for pale skin??
