Autumn In To Winter

Autumn is quickly turning in to winter, but I’m trying to enjoy the golden leaves while they last. Photos from the last couple of months.

I have been loving this cool cat for 6 years today!

Sussex Wandering

A couple of weekends ago we travelled to Hastings for a few days. On our way there we visited Bodium Castle (which is incredible by the way – definitely worth a visit!) and we also stopped by Brighton to see Mr. Jukes.
We fell in love with Hastings all over again (I hadn’t been since December), and found it really hard to leave…

Our Airbnb was beautiful.

Vintage Lenses on My New Fujifilm X-T2

After saving up and getting excited for months and months – I finally bought myself a Fujifilm X-T2 with 18-55mm kit lens & vertical power grip. Yep, I’m back in the Fujifilm universe and couldn’t be happier about it! (and I saved more money than I thought I would by trading in my old Olympus)

Harry bought me a Fujifilm X10 when we first got together, almost 6 years ago (!!!) and I loved it, but after a few years I felt that I had outgrown it and wanted something with a little more bells and whistles. So I had a moment of madness and bought an Olympus OM-D E-M10. I loved that too, but I felt I outgrew it a lot faster than the X10, and at around the 1 year mark I felt a little held back by it. It also severely lacks a user friendly interface, finding settings was a nightmare as nothing is physically on the camera. Unlike the Fujifilm X range, where Apeture, ISO and shutter speed are actual dials on the top. I wasted so much time just trying to find simple settings!

I had heard a lot about using old SLR lenses on micro 4/3 and APS-C sensor cameras, but never really got in to it with my Olympus for whatever reason. Looking back, I have no idea what I didn’t try it sooner?!? I bought a cheap FD to FX lens adapter from Amazon, as I have a few Canon FD mount lenses from my old AE-1, AND BAM! I love it. Using manual focus again can be a bit weird, but the end results are SO good. And its tripled my lens collection without having to shed out loads of money.

Shooting film was my first photography love, way back when I was 16, and it feels so much like I’m doing that with these old lenses. It also somehow gives that film look and atmosphere?? It’s like magic!
Also, if you are planning on giving shooting video a go, there’s a really good video all about adapting vintage lenses on to the Fuji X system from a Youtube channel called The Photo Dept – check it out here.  If you love shooting film, and the Fujifilm X system, its the perfect channel!

I will probably invest in a couple of Fuji X lenses over time (I have my eye on a couple of prime lenses), but for now – I’ve found my jam!
If you love or miss shooting film, have a digital camera that has the option to use adapters and still have some old lenses, I definitely recommend trying an adapter and giving it a whirl! It’s really made me start thinking again when I’m taking photos, and that can only be a good thing.

Lick of Life: April

I didn’t bring my camera out in April. Nor have I been feeling that great. Buuuut I really want to step up my game, so my aim for May is to bring my camera out with me EVERYWHERE. Even if I’m just going food shopping. You never know when you’ll see a cute puppy or something, right??
I might also do a lil vloggie because I’m off to Brighton to see Kishi Bashi on the 15th!

SO the following is mostly a bunch of phone camera shots of what I got up to in April – I apologise (Mainly to myself).

A Lick of Life: March

It’s a late one this month! I’ve had no internet access for most of the month, so doing anything (you know, blogging… WORK!) has been nigh on impossible. Fingers crossed our new provider can get us back online tomorrow. It’s also been a pretty packed, stressful month for me, so photos haven’t really been first on my agenda, oops!

I had my hair coloured professionally in March… lets just say it didn’t go well. This was the first attempt. After one wash I was left with cartoonish yellow-blonde hair. Every time I caught myself in the mirror I let out an “eep!” sort of sound, but ended up just trying to repeat my mantra “It’s okay; David Bowie Vibes”. I went again just over a week later and its a bit better/darker, but fading fast!

This is the only lipstick I’ve been wearing all month. Urban Decay Comfort Matte in ‘Carnal’ – apparently its super close to the sold out Nars limited edition lipstick in ‘Kiss Me Stupid’, and I’m finding it really suits red hair!

It was this one’s birthday! Aaaand, he bought himself his first car! He is now the super proud owner of a shiny gold Mini One – and I’m in looooove with it. It’s gold – of course I’m in love with it.

Harry took around 200 photos to get this one. I need to get better at having my photo taken.

Lets hope April is full of better, warmer days for everyone! Did anyone else have a full on March??

Little Lick of Life: February

VERY slowly going through this book, both for myself and Stark & Goodwin. It asks such basic questions that you kind of naturally think about, but never write down. This forces you to get everything down on paper and really look at it all. Saving my head from swimming with branding ideas!

I’ll be making a blog post about an Etsy update in the next few days – this has been made in to an A3 print!

Lil teacake-head

Harry got me some of my favourite flowers for Valentines Day. We don’t normally do anything out of the ordinary on this day, but colourful flowers are always appreciated!

I visited Bath again this month for work – finally started to see some amazing progress with the apartments. If you’d like, you can see more of my interior photography on my (temporary) portfolio site: meggieamey.tumblr.com

I really like this teeny face I quickly sketched up out of nowhere a little while ago. The eyes are really different to my normal “style” – but I kinda love it.

What did you do in February? Are you planning anything interesting for March? I’m hoping for brighter, warmer days. A girl can dream!
